I’m in northern NJ this week for work and somehow managed to get a 2016 Camaro (rental spec) for the week. Any questions?
Yes, the visibility is as unbelievably bad as they say.

Why do you spell Camero with an “a”

Is rental spec the 4 cylinder or the 6?

No, that would spell camera ;)

Tag on the keys says “1LT”
I forgot they had a 4cyl now. I’ll have to check.
It’s not fast.

Camerao is spanish for Camera, which I do not have with me.

Assuming it has the 8-speed automatic, how terrible is it?
The last 8-speed I experienced was in a Chrysler 300, and it didn’t know what gear it wanted to be in most of the time.

Is a backup camera standard?

It’s got at least 7, so probably the 8-speed. It has no idea what gear to be in as well, though it’s not awful once you’re moving (i.e. once it settles on a gear). Sport mode helps but it’s still pretty indeterminate, which makes the throttle response pretty much nonexistent.
A manual would make a huge difference. I’ve yet to try out the “manual mode” in any depth, but the “-” paddle will kick it down.

This has one, which is good. Between the camera (which is remarkably low to the ground) and the mirrors you can almost back into a parking spot with a semblance of confidence.

dat visibility

For sure. I expected it to be poor but I had no idea it would be this bad. I feel like I’m driving a tank through a periscope.

I own said rental spec Camaro.
I am getting used to the visibility.
I’m pretty impressed with the turbo four, you?
Other thoughts?

Yeah it’s weird now.
For Ford, the 4 cylinder is above the 6 cylinder.
For Chevy the 4 cylinder is below the 6. So I have no idea what they are sending out to rental lots.
Do you feel American driving it?

How well can you not see out of it?

This is the V6 actually, it’s not too bad though I feel like the far-too-many-speed auto is taking away from the feel quite a bit with its endless shifting (including in sport mode). I’m sure it doesn’t help that I’ve spent most of my time in it in northern NJ traffic (just outside Newark).
I think this car with a manual trans would actually be pretty nice, I could get comfortable in it, though the visibility thing is a pretty big deterrent (to be fair I’m used to old cars with massive greenhouses).
I’ll do a full review at the end of the week-ish.

I checked, it’s the 6 (which is good because if this was a turbo 4 and I had heard the zero whooshy noises I’ve heard, I would be disappointed).
I don’t know that I feel exceptionally American driving it, to me Extra-American cars are the old muscle-or-barge sort of deal. This feels like a proper sports car which happens to have pillars the size of a christmas ham.

My main issue is the blind spots, I’m used to rarely using my mirrors and just looking over the shoulder to change lane, etc. That doesn’t work here, options are mirrors or the inside of the B and C pillar. I’m sort of getting used to it.
The customer site I’m at requires all vehicles to be backed in for parking, so I’ve been forced to trust the camera and mirrors more than I usually would.
To answer the original question - I’m pretty good at not seeing out of it. I bet someone taller or shorter than me (5'10") would be even better at not being able to see out of it, though.

Yeah, traffic with my 8-speed is an exercise in trying to ignore all it’s shifts. Manual mode helps but still. The programming could be better. It’s just as bad on the trucks so I guess it makes me feel better? Ish? I’ll look forward to your review. I have had mine for a little over a week. Still getting used to the long ass hood. But visibility is a bit better once you get used to it.
